Everyone with a child under 5 years will receive a Health Visitor-led service which includes health education and implementing the Healthy Child Programme. The Healthy Child Programme comprises of:
- Home visit by a health visitor at 10-14 days postnatal
- Follow-up home visit at 6 weeks
- 3-4 month growth and development review
- 1 year growth and development review
- 2 year growth and development review
The health visiting team works in a geographically defined area within Loughborough. Each GP practice has a monthly appointment clinic for weighing and health visitor advice. The contact number for the health visitor team is 0300 3000 07
Some families may be in need of additional services from the health visiting team. This is usually a short-term intervention and can include support for parents suffering from postnatal illness, support with breast-feeding, managing minor ailments and support with managing children’s behaviour. Health visitors are nurse prescribers prescribing from a limited formulary.
